Hello, my name is Remus. Remus John Lupin. I am 38 years old and currently seeking employment in Muggle London.
My friends call me Moony, but it has been many years since I heard that name – it feels like a lifetime ago. The name brings back so many good (and bad) memories for me. It was a time of great happiness, gaining some truly wonderful friends but also a time of great sadness when I lost them. I miss James and Sirius more each day – they were my brothers – I would have given my life to save both of them. I feel guilty that I am still living and they are long gone.
I know both of them would be angry with me for thinking such a thing – but they have been cheated out of life. James and Sirius should still be living, enjoying life, and being with Harry – I feel I have been a poor substitute for them in Harry's life, something I want to change.
Because of my, er, problem and the prejudices associated with it, it has been impossible for me to gain work in the wizarding world – so I have been trying to hold down a job in the Muggle world, something that has been harder than I imagined. I fought alongside the Order and helped defeat the most evil wizard ever known and my reward - being shunned by the community I fought so hard to help protect. Yes, I know werewolves traditionally are untrustworthy but there are a few exceptions.
I try not to feel bitter than I have been turned away from my own world but it's hard not to feel dislike for the Ministry and their moronic rules.
It seems the only bright spot in my life is my love life (and I never thought I would say that). I am very much in love with Nymphadora Tonks – I pushed her away for many months and just when we seemed to be heading for some happiness the Order and the moon kept us apart.
We desperately tried to maintain our relationship but it was impossible. Our meetings were brief and sometimes our trysts emotionless – it seemed we were just going through the motions – both desperate for contact but our minds and sometimes hearts were elsewhere.
Over the past couple of months things have changed between us (for the better). I have never been good with girls (something which amused James and Sirius greatly) and I'm even worse with women but with Tonks I feel a contended feeling I have never felt before. I am not ready to share my 'other' life with her though – I am just not sure she is ready.
But I look forward to seeing where our lives take us – she knows the truth about and still wants to be with me, and that is an amazing feeling.
